Reality hits home

Well Ela is now three weeks into her school life and the realisation is dawning that this is actually tough. Yes the novelty has worn off, as on Thursday morning in the playground she was in tears begging to come back home with me as she was "soooo tired mummy".

My stock response has been along the lines of Ok but wait till lunchtime and if you still feel that way you can give me a call. Knowing rightly that she will soon get into the swing of things once she gets amongst her friends.

So homework (10mins reading and jolly phonics) has begun and Ela actually came home with her first Merit Award for "excellent attitude to her learning". Very proud. Wonder how long it will last? She does though seem to get very animated when she talks about one particular boy in the class who is forever getting yellow carded and sent to the principle's office.

Brave boy

Tom got stung by a bee today - the teacher called to tell me she had to take out the stinger with tweezers and then applied an ice pack. He didn't seem bothered by it at all and was up and running with a wheelbarrow when I arrived to pick him up. Luckily there was no reaction to the sting either.

He has however learnt the art of deception. Whenever he is feeling in need of attention, he reminds us about his poor foot and how he was stung. The other outcome of the sting was that he will not now wear sandals or crocs and insists on wearing socks and trainers even in the 30 degree heat!
